Its not everyday that you get to play with the most powerful smartphones. We had the LG G2 in our office and to say the least, we are not disappointed at all. A flagship from LG, the G2 has superb battery life, impressive snapdragon 800 performance, improved QSlide multitasking, robust camera features with optical image stabilization, the device leaves none to be desired.
In the past one year though, devices including the LG G2 have grown in size and most of the flagships available these days make one hand operation, an impossible task. Naturally then, many of the smartphone OEM’s have come up with their own solutions to this issue. The most obvious is minimizing the bezel around the display. As a result, the very popular GS4 feels around the same size as its predecessor GS3 even though the former packs a larger display. Lg has done something similar with the G2 and have achieved the thinnest bezels so far in any smartphone. Nevertheless, its still huge. LG has therefore opted for a feature, KnockOn and much of the hype at the launch of the device was created around this feature.
Consider this situation. Weekend morning, broken bike! Obviously then, you’d end up with greasy palms and fingers and then you realize you are 2 minutes away from the deadline you’d set to send an important email that you have saved in your drafts. The last thing you would want to do is make your brand new device dirty and a white one at that. Furthermore, with LG having opted for power as well as volume buttons on the back cover, a feature like KnockOn makes sense. It’s the only solution that you have wherein you can both save your job as well as keep your smartphone tidy.
Power buttons are hard to reach on devices sporting displays anything north of 4.5″. Even if placed on the sides, the sheer width of the device makes it hard to reach it. The KnockOn feature on the LG G2 makes perfect sense as a consolation for its size. But then again, once we lay our eyes on the beautiful 1920×1080 displays, going back is not a choice we are willing to take!
