Samsung reinvented the stylus by introducing the S-Pen

When everyone wrote off the stylus after the launch of the Apple iPhone back in 2007. Samsung took a huge risk by launching their first Note device that included a stylus in it. Tech experts had mixed reactions about the use of a stylus in smartphones.

And 3 years later after the launch of first Galaxy Note, Samsung has a created a niche audience for the device. Have a look at the reason for the success of Samsung Galaxy Note series and the S-pen:

  • The Note’s S Pen is a rare kind of smartphone innovation: one that adds to the experience of using an extremely popular device (Samsung Note series phones and tablets) and one that that got shamelessly copied by other OEMs.
  • Making everyday tasks much faster and easier, Samsung’s S Pen has been specifically designed to serve as the primary tool that users go to for common, everyday mobile device use.
  • This new S Pen offers a much more authentic pen experience, with a more natural brush effect that perfectly emulates writing on paper with a fountain or calligraphy pen.
  • In the recently launched Samsung Galaxy Note 4, the S Pen also introduces a more user-friendly Air Command functionality along with other intuitive features such as Action Memo, Screen Write, Image Clip and Smart Select that allow users to create and collect content with ease.
  • A new Smart Select feature enables users to easily piece together content from different origins, and share it with ease.
  • ?The Galaxy Note 4 also provides users with a choice of multiple, seamless note-taking methods integrated with Samsung’s S Note application that allows everyday tasks to get done faster and more easily.
  • In addition to typing and writing, the innovative Photo note feature allows users to take a picture of their notes on a paper or a classroom board, and then quickly and easily convert to the S Note.
    • They can also further unleash their creativity by jotting down their thoughts quickly with the Voice Memo

It’s due to these innovations, Samsung continues to be a clear leader in the Indian smart phones market. As per GfK data, which is based on actual sales, Samsung’s volume market share in the October-December 2014 quarter was 34.3% and the value market share was 35.8%.

According to Asim Warsi, Vice President, Marketing, Mobile business, Samsung India Electronics Pvt. Ltd. – “In the entire year 2014, we continued to lead the market with innovative and exciting offerings. Our volume market share in the smartphone market in the year was 35.7%, which is more than double than that of the next player, while our value share was 40.2%, which is more than four times the next player. The GfK data is based on actual retail sales in 50,000-plus population cities.”
