The well-known UK broadcaster Five will soon bring TV programs to Facebook. The two companies have joined hands to start Five’s TV-on-demand player to the giant social network. The deal explains that in next few weeks Facebook’s 26m UK users will be able to watch Five’s TV content on Facebook that includes Gadget Show, CSI Miami, Neighbours and Home & Away.
According to NMA sources –
The development, the deal is “all systems go” and the player is already being embedded into Facebook. It will launch within the next week to ten days. The embeddable player will allow users to view any video Five already makes available on the site and on other platforms.
This is interesting to note that no other broadcaster till date has got such close deal with Facebook. The BBC’s upgraded iPlayer, which went into beta in May, enables content to be shared on Twitter and Facebook, and users can tap into the social networks once they have registered for a BBC ID. However, Five already has a deal with Google-owned video site, YouTube which enables UK users to watch the programs on the giant video site rather than on Five’s dedicated site.
